Vintage Hindu Prints - Opium specializes in vintage prints of Hindu Gods and Goddesses.  These beautiful prints date from the 1940's and 1950's and are often embellished with sari fabrics, sequins and glitter, to bring a three dimensional feel to the art form.  They mainly feature the most revered deities including Shiva, Ganesha, Laxshmi, Durga, Saraswati, Vishnu and Lord Rama. The prints date from 1920's to 1950's and originate from studios in Bombay, Calcutta and Gujarat. We have prints from highly collectable print makers such as Ravi Varma.

Miniature Vintage Watercolours - These paintings mostly depict Hindu deities such as the elephant headed God Ganesha, remover of obstacles and Laxshmi, Goddess of wealth.  Other subjects include Rajasthani princesses, horses and holy Indian cows.

Hindu Gods & Goddesses

Brahma - Creator of the Universe. Not to be confused with Brahman, the ground of all being.
Shiva - Creator, Transformer & Destroyer of the Universe, representing the cycle of life. His avatar is the Nandi Bull.
Lakshmi - Goddess of Prosperity, both material and spiritual. Depicted with 2 elephants.
Vishnu - Preserver of the Universe. Many Gods are incarnations of Vishnu, such as Krishna, Lord Ram & The Buddha.
Krishna - God of Love. Often depicted with cows and the 8th incarnation of Vishnu. His consort is Rada.
Lord Ram - The 7th incarnation of Vishnu and symbol of bravery. Central figure of the epic, Ramayana. His consort is Sita.
Durga - Goddess of Female Power or Shakti, usually depicted on a Tiger or Lion.
Saraswati - Goddess of Music & Learning and the Arts. She is usually depicted on a swan playing a sitar.
Parvati - The Mother Goddess and consort of Lord Shiva. She represents Love.
Holy Nandi Bull - Avatar of Lord Shiva. The Holy Nandi Bull is particularly revered in South India.
Hanuman - The Monkey God and avatar of Lord Ram. He represents loyalty.
